NEWS FLASH: Another top NFL offensive coordinator has reportedly informed clubs that he will remain with the Texans, removing him from the New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator candidacy.

For the New Orleans Saints, head coach Dennis Allen, and quarterback Derek Carr, a fantastic day for the Houston Texans and quarterback C.J. Stroud turns into a difficult one. Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson has reportedly told teams that were considering him for a coordinator post that he will stay in Houston, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. That deals serious damage to the Saints’ ongoing hunt because it was thought that Johnson was among the top candidates for the growing pool of requests for interviews.

Bobby Slowik, the offensive coordinator for the Texans, also announced his intention to stay in Houston. This was a development that gave rise to hopes that Johnson would advance in Houston after learning that Slowik would not accept a head coaching position elsewhere. But that hope did not last long.

Johnson is now the third coach to agree to a follow-up interview with New Orleans before accepting a new position elsewhere. The Cincinnati Bengals persuaded Dan Pitcher to remain with Joe Burrow as their new offensive coordinator, and Zac Robinson joined the coaching staff of the Atlanta Falcons alongside buddy and new Falcons Head Coach Raheem Morris.
