DEAL AGREED: Texas Are Set To Resign Former Top Star on Free Agency as Key To World Series Title Defense

Many elements will play into the Texas Rangers’ title defence. Health is probably at the top of the list. As spring training approaches this month, several key Rangers are healing. World Series MVP Corey Seager (hernia surgery) is hoping to be ready for Opening Day.

A trio of pitchers, Max Scherzer, Jacob deGrom, and Tyler Mahle, will most likely be sidelined until the second part of the season. Starting pitching is unquestionably the most serious health concern. Nathan Eovaldi, Jon Grey, Dane Dunning, Andrew Heaney, and Cody Bradford figure to be the starting rotation for the season. Of course, bringing Jordan Montgomery back would be a tremendous benefit.

Texas Rangers Face Stiff Competition for Free Agent Jordan Montgomery, 'Massive' Contract Likely - Sports Illustrated Texas Rangers News, Analysis and More
MLB.com has created one crucial metric for each team to watch in 2024, with the Rangers’ inclusion focusing on pitching. More precisely, Texas’ key to success this season may be connected to the combined starts of Eovaldi and Grey. According to MLB.com, the defending World Series winners may yet re-sign free agent Jordan Montgomery, but if not, Eovaldi and Grey will be expected to stay healthy and carry the team’s rotation.

The Rangers should have one of the strongest offences in baseball again, especially if rookies Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford perform as expected. However, Texas’ starting lineup could prevent the club from competing for another championship.

What Max Scherzer already has learned about Jacob deGrom's game

The Rangers will be without Montgomery, Max Scherzer (back surgery), and Jacob deGrom (Tommy John surgery) until at least midseason. After an All-Star first half, Eovaldi battled ailments down the line last season but still started 25 games. This was the fourth-highest total of his 13-year career. Grey made 29 starts, which is tied for second highest in his nine-year career. If Eovaldi and Grey can provide that level of durability and production this season, the Rangers should be in good condition whenever the pitching cavalry arrives.
