Luke Nickel, a Milton (GA) quarterback, has committed entirely to the University of Miami.
He recently guided his high school to the Georgia state championship. His 7-on-7 squad won last weekend’s Battle 7v7 Miami. Nickel has verbally committed to the Miami Hurricanes since August 2023.
On Thursday morning’s Locked On Canes podcast, I spoke with Nickel about his recruitment.
We talked about why he selected Miami. Nickel explained his degree of comfort with head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson. Nickel discussed why he believes Dawson’s system is great for him.
-Throughout the interview, Nickel refers to Miami as “we”. Despite the fact that he won’t be able to sign his letter of intent for another 10 months, he is fully committed to the Hurricanes. Nickel says he still hears from other colleges, but everyone knows he is a future Hurricane. He informed me he wants to assist the Hurricanes win a championship.
-Nickel has formed bonds with other candidates throughout the process, including some who have yet to verbally commit to a school. He lists 5-Star WR Jaime Ffrench (Jacksonville Mandarin) and 4-Star WR Cortez Mills (Homestead) as players he is getting along with. Ffrench and Mills are currently uncommitted, although Miami is pursuing both of them.
-Nickel discussed his bond with Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL player Cam Newton, who trains him in 7-on-7.
