JUST IN: Titans Hire Ravens Coach Dennard Wilson as Their Defensive Coordinator

Nashville, Tennessee Less than a week after taking the field as the Tennessee Titans’ new coach, Brian Callahan made his first hiring. Dennard Wilson, the defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens, will take over as the Titans’ new defensive coordinator, a source verified to AllTitans.com. The fact that Mike Macdonald, Wilson’s defensive coordinator in Baltimore, was hired on Wednesday to become head coach of the Seattle Seahawks may have contributed to the Titans’ hasty decision. Wilson has been a well-liked contender, and he had an interview with the Titans on Tuesday. The New York Giants conducted two interviews with him.

He also received inquiries to speak with the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams. Wilson led one of the NFL’s top pass defences during his one season as a member of John Harbaugh’s staff in Baltimore. The Ravens had the second-best pass coverage and the second-best defence overall in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus’s grade. They shared the lowest pass-yard average in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns in 2023, allowing only 5.9 yards per pass. The defence average of the Ravens’ opponents last year was the fifth-best, with only 60.6% of their throws completed.

Wilson spent five seasons as a coach with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams before starting his NFL career in 2012. Additionally, he was employed by the Philadelphia Eagles (2021–2022) and the New York Jets (2017–20). Wilson contributed to the formation of the NFL’s top pass defence (179.8 yards per game) in his second season with the Eagles, which saw them qualify for Super Bowl LVII.
