Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry has one big hope for quarterback Deshaun Watson, and it has little to do with the fact that the team replaced offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt with Ken Dorsey this offseason.
Dorsey’s time as a quarterbacks coach and, later, offensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills helped signal-callers Cam Newton and Josh Allen develop as MVP-caliber starters. If Dorsey fails to receive similar production from Watson next season, the Browns may consider moving on from their incumbent quarterback before the 2025 NFL Draft. It remains to be seen whether head coach Kevin Stefanski would delegate offensive play-calling to Dorsey later this year. Whatever Stefanski decides, the outcome could impact his and Watson’s futures in Cleveland after Week 18 of the 2024 season.
