Houston — The Houston Texans’ major priority in 2024 will aim to recreate or exceed their achievements from the 2023 season. The Texans outperformed their low expectations by progressing to the Divisional Round of the playoffs after finishing 10-7 during the regular season. Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud cited trust as the most important attribute between the coaching staff and players for the Texans’ success. Looking ahead to next season, Stroud is prepared to “run it back,” especially with offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson returning.
“We came in know that it was our first year in everybody’s eyes, but we’ve been playing ball at a high level for a long time,” said Stroud. “I’ve developed numerous positive ties with our veterans and rookies. All of them are my brothers. It has been incredible to grow with a group of men that simply want to play football. We’re trying to run it again this year and do even better.”
Stroud is a perfect illustration of how the Texans established a foundation for a bright future. He entered the 2023 NFL Draft as the second-best prospect at his position out of Ohio State. Nine months later, however, Stroud was named to his first Pro Bowl after having one of the best rookie quarterback seasons in league history.
Stroud concluded the regular season with the third-most passing yards for a first-year quarterback, 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and five interceptions, completing 63.9 percent of his throws. Stroud’s selection was the Texans’ third Pro Bowl pick, following left tackle Laremy Tunsil and defensive end Will Anderson Jr. He was also the first quarterback to accomplish the feat since Deshaun Watson in 2019, and the first rookie at his position in franchise history.
