ESPN NEWS REPORT: Texan fans with special Free Agents Appeal to the Texans for a Must Re-Sign

The Houston Texans are fortunate to have the cap flexibility and draft resources to elevate themselves from “happy to be here” postseason hopefuls to serious Super Bowl competitors. Supporting quarterback C.J. Stroud and complementing his efforts with a solid defence would be critical to competing with clubs like the Baltimore Ravens, who were simply more skilled than a Houston team that had exceeded expectations. However, before they make the big moves that may win them the offseason or make them heavy favourites for the AFC South title, the Texans will have the chance to bring back some of their own success stories from 2023. Whom should they prioritize?

Jonathan Greenard, Noah Brown ruled out for Saturday - NBC Sports

Jonathan Greenard, Houston’s best pending free agent and the one they should prioritize most, is an edge rusher. Greenard was the team’s most productive pass rusher, recording the most sacks (12.5), tackles for loss (15), and quarterback hits (2022). He is undeniably overshadowed by star counterpart Will Anderson Jr., but he projects as a good second edge rusher, even if his production surpassed his win rate stats. Greenard isn’t anticipated to cost much, even at a value position, and Houston will boast one of the league’s best edge duos.

Blake Cashman continues to make a push for the Defensive Player of the Year award

At the second level of the defense, linebacker Blake Cashman is another possibility the Texans could attempt to extend. His track record may not indicate a large payday, but he was one of Houston’s best defenders, particularly as the season progressed.
