Dan Quinn’s departure to become the Washington Commanders’ new head coach is a bit of a lose-lose situation for the Dallas Cowboys. They not only lose the man who came in and immediately turned around their defence, but they also lose him to a division competitor. If that isn’t enough, he could also poach some of their next free agents.
The Dallas Cowboys are now a touch behind the eight ball in terms of free agency. Their salary-cap situation is not ideal, and numerous key players need to be extended or re-signed. On the other hand, with Dan Quinn in control in Washington, the Commanders have a far better salary cap, with somewhat more than $73 million to deal with.
When it comes to free agency, connecting the dots can help decide where some free agents wind up signing. If we follow that logic, it stands to reason that several of the Dallas Cowboys’ pending free agents could join Dan Quinn in Washington. Today, we will look at the most likely choices.

Of the Dallas Cowboys’ 16 prospective free agents, just a few are likely to sign with the Washington Commanders. Taking into account the Commanders’ roster “needs” based on their own 28 prospective free agents, Dan Quinn could fill many roles with former Cowboys players.
Who is most likely to join Dan Quinn in Washington?
OC Tyler Biadasz:
Tyler Larson and Nick Gates started at centre for the Commanders last season. Gates is still under contract until 2025, while Larson is 33 years old and an upcoming free agent. Washington could keep the status quo at centre, or they might enhance and go younger by adding Tyler Biadasz, who the Cowboys may be unable to re-sign. While Quinn did not work with him personally in Dallas, he is a player he knows.
DE Dorance Armstrong:
Last year, Washington traded away both of its finest pass rushers (Chase Young and Montez Sweat), making Dorance Armstrong a viable free agent option. Armstrong excelled under Dan Quinn the last three seasons, recording 5.0, 8.5, and 7.5 QB sacks as a rotational/backup DE. He’d quickly boost the Commanders’ position to the same type of role or as a potential starter.
DE Dante Fowler:
From college to the pros, Dante Fowler has a lengthy relationship with Quinn and may follow him to Washington, as he did in Dallas. He, like Dorance Armstrong, has been a crucial rotating player for the Cowboys over the last two seasons, recording 4.0 and 6.0 quarterback sacks respectively. He’d provide much-needed depth for the Commanders and would be very inexpensive given the contracts he recently signed.
CB Jourdan Lewis:
Although he did not have the same level of success as Trevon Diggs or DaRon Bland when playing for Quinn in Dallas, Jourdan Lewis is a guy who could follow his former DC to Washington. If the Commanders do not re-sign their finest cornerback, Kendall Fuller, they risk losing him. Given Lewis’ knowledge with Quinn’s defensive scheme, the former Cowboys slot cornerback is someone they could be interested in.
S Jayron Kearse:
Jayron Kearse was a journeyman special teams player before Quinn effectively revitalized his career with the Cowboys. He has played a major role in Dallas’ secondary for the last three seasons and might make the Commanders’ transition to Quinn’s defensive scheme much smoother. He’d be a relatively inexpensive replacement for Kamren Curl, who Washington might lose in free agency.
While other of the Dallas Cowboys’ 16 prospective free agents may follow Quinn to the Washington Commanders, these five are the most likely to do so.
