JUST IN: Philadelphia Phillies has Snatch Off Yankees top Key Infielder to Bolster Squad depth

The New York Yankees have made significant moves this summer in an attempt to assemble a contending club following a poor season last year.

Trading for Juan Soto and signing Marcus Stroman are two moves that could assist.

While the main transactions make the headlines, the front office also looked for in-depth pieces.

When the New York Mets designated infielder Diego Castillo for assignment after signing starting pitcher Sean Manaea, the Yankees claimed him off waivers.
In 2022, the 26-year-old played 96 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates, hitting.206/.251/.382 with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs.

He was later transferred to the Arizona Diamondbacks, but only played one game for them after spending the majority of his time in Triple-A, before being designated for assignment.

This was the beginning of Castillo’s fascinating offseason, which included being claimed and then placed on waivers.

That’s what happened with New York, which claimed him from the Mets on January 19 and then designated him for assignment 10 days later.

According to the Philadelphia Phillies’ official announcement, the infielder has found his next home. This completes their 40-man roster, and if they make another move, they will need to make another move to create room for the new acquisition.

The Yankees will continue to look for additional components before the new season begins.

There are still plenty of players out there to pursue.

New York has been linked to a number of players who are still available and may be active in rounding out their squad.
