The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly thinking about acquiring star guard Donovan Mitchell, who is now with the Cleveland Cavaliers, in the summer. The Lakers see Mitchell as a big-time player who might improve their team considerably and maybe join forces with LeBron James and Anthony Davis to form a deadly combination.
Five-time NBA All-Star Mitchell has been a terrific player for the Cavaliers, averaging a game-high 28.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists while shooting 35.4% from outside the arc and 47.1% from the field. Because of his playmaking abilities, efficiency, and dynamic scoring ability, he is a desirable target for teams trying to improve their competitiveness.
But the Lakers’ task of obtaining Mitchell won’t be simple. Given that he is the Cavaliers’ top player, it is unlikely that Cleveland will let him go. Mitchell is a valued asset because of his contribution to the club and his impact on the court; therefore, any trade talks would probably be difficult and complicated.
However, it is intriguing to think about Mitchell joining LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the Lakers starting lineup. Their unique skill sets and talents combined would make them a dangerous trio that could compete in the NBA’s top division. James’s ability to create plays, Mitchell’s ability to score points, and Davis’ strength on defence may make up one of the league’s most dynamic trios.
Though the Lakers may encounter challenges in their pursuit of Mitchell, such as rivalry from other teams like the New York Knicks, the prospect of obtaining a player of Mitchell’s calibre is surely alluring for the franchise. The Lakers will probably look at every option as the NBA trade deadline draws near in order to bolster their roster and set themselves up for immediate and long-term success.
