JUST IN: Sunshine State offensive lineman flips his commitment to miami Hurricanes

The Miami Hurricanes coaching staff continues to recruit at a high level despite the nationwide coaching carousel instability.

Miami welcomed offensive lineman JJ Sparks, a 2026 in-state prospect, last month. Among the schools that have extended offers to the top students from Bolles School are Miami, Central Florida, South Florida, Duke, Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh, and Iowa State.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound offensive tackle is still in the early phases of his recruitment, but he talked about his visit to Miami last month, his return for spring practice, and other topics.

“On January 27, my family and I travelled to Miami. We truly appreciated it, and we had a terrific time! Sparks remarked, “The campus is gorgeous, and it was cool to watch Coach (Alex) Mirabal break down the film and meet some of the current players in the offensive line room.”

The offensive lineman from Sunshine State scheduled a second trip to Miami based solely on that first visit.

“I’m probably going to be visiting Miami on March 19 for a spring practice and then hoping to catch another one in April.”

The Bolles School standout was so impressed by Coach Mirabal that he not only planned one visit to Miami but looked forward to two. For spring practice, he is visiting other schools outside of Miami.

“I’m hoping to watch a spring practice at UCF, Florida State, and Notre Dame before my team starts spring ball.”

According to Sparks, nobody is standing out in the recruitment process at this point, so everyone is recruiting in a similar way. Having said that, Sparks knows exactly when he wants to decide which college to attend.

“I probably want to make my college decision the summer before my senior year.”

Miami seemed to have piqued Sparks’ interest early in the recruiting process. He is not rated in any service at this time, but after attending football combines and camps, that will likely alter based on his offer list and footage.
