When asked about Kelly’s compatibility with a team that seems to be stuck—the Buckeyes haven’t defeated rival Michigan since 2019—Stroud voiced hope.
Coach Ryan Day of Ohio State’s most notable accomplishment with the Buckeyes thus far may have been the journey taken by quarterback C.J. Stroud of the Houston Texans.
The Texans selected Stroud as the second pick in the 2023 NFL draft, following consecutive finishes in the top four of the Heisman Trophy voting. After Houston finished 3-13-1 in his rookie season, Stroud defied the most optimistic projections right away, winning the AP’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award and leading the team to the playoffs.
In a live interview with Yahoo Sports on Friday, Stroud was taken aback by unexpected news regarding Ohio State’s future. Chip Kelly, a coach at UCLA, is apparently going to be the program’s next offensive coordinator.
“Oh, that happened?” Stroud inquired after hearing the news. “Whoa, that’s amazing. breaking news that I must hear.”
“Coach Day is my favourite. I’ve become a tremendous quarterback for this league because of him,” Stroud said. “I believe Chip will fit in perfectly. He was Coach Day’s college coach at New Hampshire, which is where Coach Day derived much of his offensive ideas. I’m eager to watch Ohio State’s performance this season.”
