BREAKING NEWS: Seahawks Roster: Salary Cap Casualties? Will Geno Smith play out the final year of his contract in Seattle?

In 2024, the Seahawks will usher in a new era under the leadership of Mike Macdonald. Wide-ranging roster adjustments are usually the result of hiring a new coach, and Seattle is no exception. There are two things working against him. His salary cap hit and his performance in the previous season. Although Smith’s season wasn’t too bad statistically, his 8-7 record as a starter doesn’t help. His base salary of $1.2 million with a $10.1 million cap hit was highly team-friendly last year. And no, by NFL quarterback standards, that’s not a lot, but it is a lot in comparison to the previous season. It begs the question of whether the Seahawks ever intended for Smith to complete the full three years of his contract.

Jamal Adams, the safety, appears to have made a clearer decision. When comparing his output to his compensation, it appears unlikely that he will still be on the team in 2024. But hold on…
