DEAL AGREED: The Saints have reportedly made a decision on who will be the new QBs coach

Klint Kubiak is bringing someone he knows well to New Orleans.

The New Orleans Saints are set to employ Andrew Janocko as their next quarterbacks coach, reuniting Kubiak — the team’s next offensive coordinator — with a key part of his staff from his time as offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. Janocko was the quarterback’s coach that season.

Janocko, 35, will replace Ronald Curry, the Saints’ longtime quarterbacks coach who left to join the Buffalo Bills. Curry left the Saints after he was not promoted to offensive coordinator.
Janocko spent the last two seasons as the Chicago Bears’ quarterbacks coach, where he oversaw the development of 2021 first-round pick Justin Fields. Janocko was fired following the season, along with Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert.

Despite Getsy’s new role as Raiders offensive coordinator in Las Vegas, Janocko will work under Kubiak in New Orleans. Janocko was hired by the Vikings in 2015 as an offensive quality control coach, the first of many positions he would hold with the team. He formerly served as Minnesota’s assistant offensive line coach (2017, 2019), co-offensive line coach (2018), and wide receivers coach (2020). He began working with quarterbacks in 2021, after Kubiak was named to offensive coordinator.

Janocko, whose hire was originally reported by ESPN, previously worked with Saints tight ends coach Clancy Barone in Minnesota. Following Tony Sparano’s unexpected death, the two men worked together as offensive line coaches for a season.

The offensive staff has undergone a significant revamp this offseason, with the Saints firing offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, offensive line coach Doug Marrone, wide receivers coach Kodi Burns, and senior offensive assistant Bob Bicknell. Curry, running backs coach Joel Thomas (now with the Giants), assistant offensive line coach Kevin Carberry (Tampa Bay), and offensive assistant D.J. Williams (Atlanta) have all gone for different positions.

Kubiak is anticipated to bring additional coaches with him to New Orleans. In addition to Janocko, John Benton has emerged as a leading candidate for the next offensive line coach.

Kubiak’s hire will not be official until after the Super Bowl, since the San Francisco 49ers pass game coordinator is scheduled to coach the game.
