Dia Bell, a 2026 quarterback, has grown in popularity and is now one of the class’s most sought-after prospects. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound talent from American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, now has Louisville on an already extensive list of scholarship offers.
“I was very excited to be offered by Louisville,” Bell stated.
No. 12 Notre Dame gets defeated by No. 15 Louisville.
Nyla Harris leads No. 15 Louisville over No. 12 Notre Dame 73-66 with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The University of Louisville women’s basketball team defeated Notre Dame on Thursday night in front of 9,417 fans at the KFC Yum Centre; however, it wasn’t an easy victory. The team led for 39 minutes and 4 seconds.
Ultimately, the No. 15 Cardinals defeated the No. 12 Irish 73-66, with three players scoring in double digits.
The Cardinals’ record benefited greatly from the win. U of L quickly bounced back from Monday night’s loss at No. 3 NC State to defeat the Irish, keeping the team at or near the top of the ACC rankings, contingent on tonight’s outcomes, and winning its 20th game of the year.
For the fourteenth consecutive season, U of L has won twenty or more games.
Leading the Cardinals in scoring and rebounding were Nyla Harris (19 points, 10 rebounds), Sydney Taylor (13 points, including a huge three-pointer in the fourth quarter), and Kiki Jefferson (12 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists). For the Cardinals, Harris shot 9 of 11 from the field. They made 26 of 60 field goals, but only 7 of 18 three-pointers.
The likely ACC Freshman of the Year, Hannah Hidalgo, put on a fantastic performance, but the Cardinals (20-4, 9-2) prevailed. She finished with 30 points, 22 of which came in the second half, and seven steals to keep the Irish at bay.
In the first quarter, Louisville led 13-2 as Notre Dame missed its first eight shots. However, the offence slowed down for the Cardinals, and the Irish rallied to make the halftime score 30-29.
Following Hidalgo’s 13 points in the third quarter, U of L responded with a layup from Olivia Cochran, a three-pointer from Jayda Curry following a steal by Merissah Russell, and a layup from Harris to take a 10-point lead, allowing Notre Dame to trail at 40-37.
With 4:30 remaining, the Irish trailed 57-51 when Russell, Taylor, and Curry made back-to-back three-pointers to increase the advantage to 68-5.
However, Hildago, the ACC’s top scorer, gave the Irish a chance to respond. With twenty-five seconds remaining, her three-point shot made the score 70-66. However, Cochran added one more free throw, and Jefferson made two more to give the Cardinals the win.
On Sunday at 12 p.m., U of L will take on Syracuse at the JMA Wireless Dome.
