JUST IN: Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is tired of seeing Brock Purdy get disrespected by NFL fans.

Super Bowl LVIII between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs is in one day.

And in spite of what some fans and analysts may believe, the play of their second-year quarterback, Brock Purdy, was a major factor in the Niners’ ability to make it to Las Vegas.

Many have referred to the former Mr. Irrelevant as overvalued or a “game manager” over the past two seasons, attributing most of the team’s accomplishments to the outstanding group of players that surround him.

But Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud shared his opinions on Purdy and the reasons he is sick of those stories in a recent interview conducted prior to the big game.
Stroud remarked, “I don’t like how people do Purdy.” “I believe Purdy to be an exceptional player, not just a good player. On the bus today, I was watching a video of Purdy’s best moments. The majority were excellent throws. Nothing about becoming an NFL quarterback is fundamental. One thing needs to be made clear: nothing is simple. It doesn’t matter if someone appears incredibly naive.”

While Purdy may not have the same flare and perceived “big play” potential as players like Dak Prescott or Lamar Jackson, he nonetheless produced outstanding numbers throughout the regular season in 2023.

Purdy finished the season with an NFL passing yardage of 4,280, a fourth-best completion percentage of 69.4%, the third-most touchdowns (31) and the first-best QBR (72.7), all of which were superior to both MVP candidate Aaron Jackson and Super Bowl opponent Patrick Mahomes.

However, Stroud points out that Purdy has been excellent without even examining the stats, pointing out how challenging it is to perform at the level of NFL quarterback Purdy has been performing.
“I don’t think you can play at a high level like he does and just be average,” Stroud stated. That simply isn’t the case. Do I believe he is on a fantastic team? Yes, without a doubt. He has a dog-filled team. That group ought to be playing in the Super Bowl. You must be the person who will take charge of the locker room. Because they are winning football games, there are many things that I know he is doing in there but that people don’t see.”

Purdy, who is just in his second season in the NFL, will take on the Mahomes on Sunday with the goal of winning his first Super Bowl; there is something else that makes the quarterback stand out about him.
