JUST IN: Proposed Blockbuster Sends Chicago Bears QB to Commanders For Picks

With the second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Washington Commanders face a difficult dilemma. It’s almost certain that they’ll choose a quarterback, but nothing is out of the question just yet. Given the quarterback potential in this class, they may shift the pick to draft someone with more experience. Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears could be an ideal trade candidate.

It’s no surprise that the Commanders are hoping to move up to the first pick in the draft. To accomplish so, they would need to make a deal with the Bears. However, what if they struck a deal that sent Fields to Washington and sent the No. 2 pick to Chicago? In a fake deal from David Harrison of Sports Illustrated, the Commanders would get Fields.

Dov Kleiman on X: "People around the #NFL are connecting #Bears QB Justin Fields to the #Falcons as a potential option for Atlanta, per @RapSheet Desmond Ridder could also be traded in

In this suggested trade, the Commanders would receive Fields, the Nos. 9 and 110 overall picks in the 2024 NFL draft, and a second-round pick from the Carolina Panthers in the 2025 draft. The Bears would acquire the second overall pick.

Harrison adds that it might benefit the Bears and keep the Commanders in the top ten in the draft.

“The benefit for the Bears here is they only send two of their own picks to make the move and the Commanders stay in the top 10 of the draft while adding a quarterback who appears to fit new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.”Of course, there is a legitimate debate about Washington merely sending a second-round pick – possibly the one Chicago sent in exchange for defensive end Montez Sweat – but that debate has already occurred, so we decided to add a new twist to this one.”

The Chicago Bears directly alter the Washington Commanders’ draft strategy.
Whatever the Chicago Bears do with the first overall choice has a direct impact on the Washington Commanders. If Chicago does trade that pick to another team, it is almost guaranteed that team will draft Williams.

However, there is a scenario in which the Bears transfer that pick to the Commanders and Washington acquires Williams. There’s also the possibility that Washington will draft second overall and still land Williams. If Chicago believes Fields is the answer, they may choose to take a guy like as Joe Alt or Marvin Harrison Jr. with the first pick.

It doesn’t make much sense for them to keep that pick if they aren’t g

oing to take Williams, but they would be able to make the exact pick they want without anybody else trading up and perhaps snagging someone they want off the board. If they do not take Williams, they could trade that pick for other draft picks and a player who can help them.

Commander’s Options In the 2024 NFL Draft, Washington faces numerous decision-making opportunities. If they made a deal for a player like Fields, they might draft a skilled position player in the first round. A true offensive weapon should still be available with the No. 9 pick from this fake trade.

Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, Brock Bowers, and Rome Odunze are among names that the Washington Commanders could consider if they make a trade for a quarterback.
