Whether the 49ers had won the Super Bowl or not, we knew going into the NFL offseason that they would be making some changes. Perhaps the 49ers quarterback room was always going to be the most obvious place for change, as the franchise loved Sam Darnold enough to let Trey Lance go to Dallas in what was essentially a dump-off trade last August.
Darnold is now prepared to move on and look for a new position. Additionally, NFL Network source Tom Pelissero revealed this week that one might be on the horizon—in Minnesota, taking Kirk Cousins’ starting job.

Kirk Cousins, who is scheduled to become a free agent in March, is someone the Vikings would like to re-sign. However, Pelissero stated, “I think Cousins will have a good market as a free agent, even at age 35 coming off an Achilles.” “Minneapolis is considering all options in the event that Cousins chooses to relocate. In actuality, the Vikings would go for a more cost-effective veteran if the asking price was too high.
“Sam Darnold, the 49ers’ current backup, is a guy who could be a possibility. They’re hoping he can be this year’s Baker Mayfield while also giving them time to potentially develop a rookie quarterback.”
