BREAKING NEWS: Seahawks, Mike Macdonald to Make Big Geno Smith Decision

Geno Smith was slated to be the Seattle Seahawks’ QB1 after performing an excellent job replacing Russell Wilson in 2022. Coming into the 2023 season, many assumed that the journeyman quarterback had finally found a home.

However, a bleak 2023 cast his future in doubt once more. With the West Virginia product’s contract designed to allow the organization the opportunity to select a new quarterback immediately, his fate is now in the hands of the team’s next head coach.
The Seattle Seahawks expect to keep or trade Geno Smith this week.

According to Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune, the Seahawks will make a decision on Smith as Macdonald adjusts to his new role as head coach.
Doubters will likely argue that it’s time to move on from the 33-year-old quarterback. However, it appears that the former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator saw things differently:

Schneider and Macdonald have given no indication that they are ready to move on from Smith. He turns 34 next season. His contract extends until 2025.

When questioned about the Seahawks’ quarterback during his initial news conference on February 1, Macdonald answered, “Pretty sure he’s at the Pro Bowl right now.”

The vote of confidence suggests that Macdonald’s tenure as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks will begin with Smith at quarterback.
Geno Smith may have fumbled more than in his first Pro Bowl year, but his 3624 passing yards and 20 touchdowns are still indicative of a top quarterback.
In addition to their starting quarterback, the Seahawks’ head coach is required to find a solution for Drew Lock. When Smith was out due to injury, the former Bronco proved to be an excellent alternative. They’ll probably have to beat off suitors to keep him in Seattle.

If the squad puts their trust in Smith, he will be willing to reward the trust his head coach has in him. Smith, who has a talented WR1 in DK Metcalf, will seek to rebound in the NFC West, which includes high-powered offences in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
