BLOCKBUSTER TRADE: Texans with a Blockbuster trade To Sign Eagles $95 Million Two-Time Pro Bowler

The Philadelphia Eagles are looking into potential trades for two-time Pro Bowler Haason Reddick. Hours before Super Bowl 58, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news that the Eagles are enabling Reddick to investigate trade options.

“Sources: Eagles All-Pro edge rusher Haason Reddick has received permission to seek a trade following another disruptive season featuring double-digit sacks,” Rapoport stated in a February 11, 2024 X message. “The 29-year old with 27 sacks over two seasons in Philly could land elsewhere.”

Pro Football Focus’ Brad Spielberger proposes a trade for the Eagles that would send Reddick to the Houston Texans. The Eagles receive the No. 59 overall pick in exchange for Reddick.

Most Philadelphia fans will find it difficult to accept Reddick’s trade for a second-round draft selection. For the Texans, teaming Reddick with Defensive Rookie of the Year Will Anderson Jr. would be an impressive combination.

Eagles Rumours: What is Haason Reddick’s trade value?

This is not a move made due of Reddick’s lack of production. Reddick is in the final season of his three-year, $45 million contract.

In 2024, the outstanding pass rusher will earn $14.2 million and be subject to a $21.3 million cap hit. With only one season left on his contract and a hefty extension on the horizon, Reddick’s trade value could fall.

“Reddick wasn’t quite as dominant in 2023, with his pass-rush grade dipping from 90.0 to 75.2, his pass-rush win rate from 16.8% to 14.4% and his pressure rate from 15.9% to 12.6%,” Spielberger wrote in a February 13 article titled, “4 NFL trades that could shake up the 2024 offseason.” “Nonetheless, he remained a very successful edge defender, having played 800+ snaps and recorded double-digit sacks in four consecutive seasons.

“Teams searching for a smaller outside linebacker who can rush upfield and produce quick pressure with good bend around the edge will call Philadelphia, and they will most likely want to extend Reddick as part of the deal. If the Houston Texans are unable to retain Jonathan Greenard in free agency, they will look for a pass-rush specialist to play alongside Will Anderson Jr.

Reddick excels at getting to the quarterback, which is one of the most important skill sets in today’s NFL. The pass rusher has had four consecutive seasons with double-digit sacks. Reddick has also demonstrated remarkable durability, appearing in at least 16 games in each of his seven NFL seasons.

During his 17 starts in 2023, the two-time Pro Bowler recorded 38 tackles, 23 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks. As ESPN’s Tim McManus explained, there is no guarantee that Reddick will be traded this summer.

“From the Eagles’ perspective, it’s not guaranteed that a trade gets done,” McManus explained in a February 11 piece headed “Source: Eagles grant Haason Reddick permission to seek trade.” “The cap considerations and compensation must be appropriate in order to part with one of their top defensive players. However, with severe defensive needs across the board, the money saved by trading Reddick would be immediately redistributed.

“There are 12 edge rushers currently averaging $20 million-plus a season, led by Nick Bosa ($34 million), according to Spotrac.com.”
