The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive staff has been gutted for the 2023 season. It began with offensive coordinator Dave Canales accepting the head coaching post with the Carolina Panthers. Harold Goodwin, Bucs’ run game coordinator and interior offensive line coach, and Joe Gilbert, offensive line coach, joined him after their contracts expired. And Brad Idzik, the wide receivers coach, has joined Canales as his new offensive coordinator in Carolina.
The Bucs are losing another member of their offensive staff, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that assistant coach David Raih has joined the Washington Commanders as tight ends coach.
The move reunites the experienced coach with the Commanders’ new offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury. They spent time together in Arizona, where Kingsbury was the head coach. He had worked as a coach for the Packers for five years until becoming Vanderbilt’s offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach in 2021.
Raih may not be a household name from last year’s Bucs roster, but he played an important role behind the scenes for Canales in 2023. For the first time as offensive coordinator, he served in the booth, giving him coverages he saw and relaying other information during the game. In addition to those tasks, he worked closely with Idzik to train the wide receivers.
