ESPN BREAKING NEWS: Commanders OC Surprisingly Reveals With 3-Word Answer Commanders Plans About Patrick Mahomes

Dan Quinn signed Kliff Kingsbury as the Washington Commanders’ offensive coordinator, fueling suspicion that they will trade with the Chicago Bears for the No. 1 pick. Caleb Williams, who has attracted comparisons to Patrick Mahomes, is the best quarterback in this year’s draft.

Mahomes is widely regarded as the best quarterback of all time, having won his third championship in 2024. Williams has the potential to be something exceptional, but putting that much expectation on the USC product is excessive. Kingsbury added to the conjecture during his inaugural press conference. He was asked what type of quarterback he preferred to work with.

Kingsbury not trying to prove anyone wrong as Commanders OC
“Chiefs quarterback.

“When the money is on the table you have to make plays with your feet, move around enough to escape and make a play.”
Kingsbury adds that while the quarterback does not have to move like Lamar Jackson or Kyler Murray, they must be able to scramble and make plays with their feet. Williams and LSU’s Jayden Daniels are capable of doing just that.

NFC Scout Discusses Patrick Mahomes and Caleb Williams Comparisons

Patrick Mahomes stars against Chargers as Chiefs win sixth ...
The parallels between Mahomes and Williams are difficult because of what Mahomes has accomplished at the greatest level. Williams has all of the attributes, including a huge arm, the ability to use his legs, and the size to be great, but he hasn’t achieved the same level of success as Mahomes.

Kingsbury’s statement about wanting the Kansas City Chiefs star could be a hint to the front office that he wants Williams to join the Washington Commanders.

An NFC scout commented on the comparisons, saying it’s not fair to compare the two just yet. He stated the following, according to Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Chicago.

“No one is saying Caleb is going to come in and automatically be one of the greatest quarterbacks in history,” an NFC scout who sees the Mahomes comparison told NBC Sports Chicago. “It took the perfect situation, coach, mentor, etc., for Mahomes to evolve from the gunslinger he was at Texas Tech to the player you see today. Comps are not about saying that player X will be player Y. It is used to provide context for the evaluation of specific talents. This player’s ability is comparable to that of an NFL player.

“When you talk about ceiling and projection, does Williams have a ceiling? It would be unfair to impose those expectations on him. Because if he’s wonderful but not transcendent, that’s a failure. He may be a star. He could be unique. Whether or not he reaches that level will be determined by a variety of factors beyond his control.

Commanders Look for Their Mahomes.

Caleb Williams gives the Bears a shot at having a future elite ...
With three quarterbacks in the NFL Draft who could become stars one day, the Washington Commanders will look for what the Kansas City Chiefs have in Mahomes. The prospect of Williams is exciting for a franchise that urgently needs a cornerstone, but Williams may not be that.

Putting Mahomes-level expectations on the rookie would be unjust, as he has shown to be the best quarterback in this draft.

The suspense builds as the draft date approaches. Williams is the preferred target, but Daniels and Drake Maye can also have an impact.
