FREE AGENCY REPORT: Denver Broncos going for a Three Tiers of WR Options

The Denver Broncos may try to sign a new receiver this summer, and here are the free-agent names to watch.
The Denver Broncos will most likely be picky in free agency in 2024, after spending heavily in the summer of 2023. The Broncos’ existing cap issues require the team to address them first, which means they may miss the initial wave of free agency.

But it’s still a good idea for Broncos supporters to learn about the upcoming unrestricted free agents at each position. We’ll look at the most notable free agents in the following weeks.

In each part, we’ll look at who the top free agents at each position are, followed by the best options. We’ll conclude up with another noteworthy name and then look at who the Broncos are most likely to pursue.

In this part, we will look at wide receivers. The Broncos have some big names with expiring contracts, but will they chase them?

The top five are Marquise Brown, Mike Evans, Tee Higgins, Michael Pittman Jr., and Calvin Ridley.

If you want to add a big-name receiver, the free agent market is for you — unless some of these guys acquire the franchise tag.

Pittman and Higgins are the most likely candidates to be tagged, although Ridley or Evans may also receive it, depending on how their current clubs manage other players. Brown is more likely to enter free agency.

However, the Denver Broncos are unlikely to pursue any of these players. They are not in a position to pursue any of them, and even if they were, they would most certainly maintain at least one of their experienced receivers in 2024.
We have two older receivers who may still have something to offer, as well as three who have been solid but not particularly outstanding.
Mike Evans Could Be Answer To Patriots' Wide Receiver Woes

Beckham is likely to want to join a top competitor and may have to sign another one-year agreement. Davis has demonstrated No. 2 potential, whilst the others may have to settle for No. 3 slots. If the Broncos decide to trade one of their current receivers, they may consider one of these choices, but only if they are less expensive than any receiver the Broncos move.

Best of the rest: Kendrick Bourne, DJ Chark, Noah Brown, KJ Osborn, Josh Reynolds, Michael Thomas, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.

Other free-agent receivers will have to accept low-cost contracts, but any of them can succeed in the right situation. Don’t rule out the idea of the Broncos pursuing some of these guys, especially if they come at a reasonable cost.

Fans may be most interested in Thomas because of the Sean Payton connection, but the others could make sense as long as the Broncos do not overpay.

While there is no assurance that the Broncos will sign a seasoned receiver in free agency, it is not impossible. Most likely, they’ll see who is available once the first wave of free agency finishes, and then look for value among those who have yet to sign with another team.
