INSTANT VICTORY: Alabama Baseball Shuts Out Manhattan College in Season Opener

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team won its opening game of the 2024 season, 4-0, against Manhattan College at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide’s junior right-handed pitcher, Ben Hess, went 4.0 innings, striking out nine batters, walking two, and allowing only one hit. The victory went to Hess. Right-handed pitchers Hagan Banks and Braylon Myers also took part in the shutout. Banks pitched 2.2 innings, striking out five, walking one, and allowing a single hit. Myers pitched the rest of the game, allowing one strikeout and one walk. Overall, the pitching rotation struck out 15 batters, walked four, and allowed just two hits.

TJ McCants, the Crimson Tide’s centre fielder, was the evening’s offensive standout, recording two singles and accounting for half of the team’s total runs. Ian Petrutz, Evan Sleight, and Will Hodo all had RBIs, with Petrutz and leadoff hitter Gauge Miller accounting for the other two runs for the Crimson Tide. Alabama may have played small ball, but the team’s ability to execute and avoid mistakes propelled them to victory. With the bats, the Crimson Tide struck out seven times and stole three bases. In the field, the team made no mistakes.
