Alabama Basketball made 18 three-pointers, kept Texas A&M to less than 38 percent from the field, and played one of its best games of the season on both sides of the court on Saturday afternoon.
Alabama had its typical contributions, including 23 points from Mark Sears and eight combined three-pointers from Rylan Griffen and Latrell Wrightsell Jr., but an improved defensive effort rendered this an uncompetitive game for much of the time.
It was far from a lockdown, but Alabama forced Texas A&M to battle for every bucket. When combined with the Tide’s own torrid shooting splits, A&M had no hope of keeping up. As a result, the Aggies were trounced by double digits in both halves, totaling 25 points.
Alabama once again scored 100 points, which it has done three times in its last six SEC games. The Tide has gone 5-1 during that time, averaging 97.2 points per game.
It has been determined that Alabama’s schedule will be difficult down the stretch. The itinerary includes stops in Lexington, Gainesville, and Oxford, as well as games against Florida and Tennessee. If it can continue to play a strong defence to match its offence, it will do much better than anyone imagined throughout this span. Furthermore, at least in theory, Alabama’s better defensive effort should keep them in games when they aren’t making shots.
The Tide did not have its customary offensive performance in games against Tennessee and Auburn, as well as during Bama’s three-game non-conference losing run in December. They did not defend effectively enough to give themselves a chance. The 2022–23 team was able to win games despite its greatest shooting performance, and the present team is striving to reach that level.
