As the Minnesota Twins prepare for the 2024 season, team president Derek Falvey believes prospect Brooks Lee is close to becoming Major League ready.
“He is getting close to being major league ready,” Falvey stated.
If Falvey is correct and Lee makes the Twins roster this season, he will have a shot to be the team’s starting second baseman. Last season, the Twins pushed Lee hard, and he improved significantly. Lee batted.275/.347/.461 in Double A and Triple A, which cemented his position within the organization.
Lee was originally taken in the first round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft. He is undoubtedly one of the organization’s top prospects.
Manager Rocco Baldelli will rely on his team’s pitching to return to the playoffs and maybe win the American League Central crown.
The Twins lost veteran pitchers Sonny Grey, Kenta Maeda, and Emilio Pagán to free agency this summer. While these losses will undoubtedly have an impact, the team’s bullpen has the potential to be the finest in the American League.
The Twins acquired relievers Jay Jackson, Steven Okert, and Zack Weiss via trades, signings, and a waiver claim. They also signed pitcher Josh Staumont in December.
However, regardless of how excellent the Twins’ pitching is, they will need numerous players to emerge as key contributors in 2024. One of those players could be Brooks Lee, who showed last season that he has room to grow.
If this trend continues throughout spring training and into the season, Lee has a potential to make a substantial contribution to the Twins’ offence.
