Alabama signed three athletes for their February signing class.
Although new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer did not hold a news conference on National Signing Day on February 7, the day was nevertheless significant for the team.
Three athletes signed letters of intent to complete Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class. Ryan Williams, a five-star wide receiver, was the headliner, and DeBoer shared his initial thoughts on Williams during an interview with Tide 100.9 on Tuesday.
However, two additional players, linebackers Noah Carter and Quinton “QB” Reese, signed earlier this month. Together, the three players comprise DeBoer’s first signing class at Alabama. DeBoer had to re-recruit Williams to Alabama after he decommitted following Nick Saban’s retirement, and Carter was released from his pledge of intent with Washington to join Alabama instead. Reese’s future was uncertain following an early signing day in December, but DeBoer accepted the scholarship offer for the three-star talent from Birmingham.
Carter, a four-star edge rusher from Arizona ranked No. 82 nationwide by 247 Sports, will come to campus this summer.
“He’s dynamic in different ways,” DeBoer stated Tuesday on Carter’s Tide 100.9. “I believe he can play on or off the line of scrimmage in many ways in our defence. The continual pressure he can apply to a pass rush will help him develop into his frame, which I believe is excellent. When you watch his clip, you can see who he is and how at ease he feels in space. He’s simply a confident football player, like Ryan. Always thinking about what is possible, and the job he does supports his aims.”
The 6-foot, 205-pound Reese attended Ramsay High School and is one of several freshman off-the-ball linebackers, including Germany’s Justin Okoronkwo and North Carolina’s Cayden Jones.
“Really exciting player that’s going to grow into a role that, physically, has a huge, huge upside,” DeBoer said in a press release. “I’m excited to see what he’ll bring. I love him and his family, and it was nice to get to know them despite the fact that they came late in the process for me given how long I’d been here. It quickly became something where we said, ‘We need to get him into our football program and see what he can do from there.'”
Alabama has 18 freshmen registered for spring practice next month, with two previously enrolled freshmen, Julian Sayin (Ohio State) and Jameer Grimsley (Florida), transferring. Reese, Williams, and Carter will be among the eight summer enrollees.
