ESPN BREAKING NEWS: Saints Have Made A Decision About Derek Carr’s Contract After Restructuring Contract of Cesar Ruiz

Typically, the New Orleans Saints enter the summer with a massive amount of salary cap room to clear before the new league year begins in March.

This summer is no exception for the Saints, who have already made some moves to get their heads above water, including one on Friday involving quarterback Derek Carr.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Twitter, New Orleans has modified Carr’s deal with the organization, freeing up approximately $23 million in cap space.
Carr will still make a lot of money in 2024, but his cap cost will be reduced to help New Orleans address its finances before the league’s free agency period begins in a few weeks.

Derek Carr sweepstakes begin with Jets and Saints at the top
Despite the Saints missed the playoffs this season, many expected Carr to be the team’s primary quarterback in 2024, and Friday’s revelation pretty much confirms this.

The veteran quarterback joined with New Orleans last year after spending the first nine seasons of his NFL career with the Raiders, who were based in both Las Vegas and Oakland.

Carr completed 68.4% of his throws with the Saints in 2023, totaling 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

How Klint Kubiak will get the ball out of Derek Carr's hand faster and why that should spark Saints offense
So, while he put up impressive numbers, it wasn’t enough to help New Orleans make the playoffs.

The Saints signed Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator this offseason, and the organization hopes that his addition will help them get the best out of Carr in 2024.

Will Kubiak and Carr become a successful combo, or will New Orleans miss the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year?
