This offseason, the Washington Commanders will have to make some significant choices about the quarterback position. Fortunately, if they choose a different path, they may obtain a respectable return for one of their current quarterbacks.
With the second overall pick in the draft, the Commanders are likely to select a quarterback, which may render Sam Howell unnecessary. Howell would get a lot of attention on the trade market, according to Ralph Vacchiano of FOX Sports, and if the Commanders move him around in the draft, they might even acquire a third-round choice.
Two years ago, the Commanders selected Howell in the fifth round. If they could now acquire a third for him, that would be a definite victory for the organization.
The former quarterback for North Carolina showed promise, especially in the first few games of 2023. He finished with a respectable 3,946 throwing yards and 21 touchdowns. In addition, he threw a league-worst 21 interceptions, and toward the end of the season, the team appeared to be losing interest in him rapidly. It might be too good to resist the chance to select a quarterback such as Drake Maye, particularly if they can acquire Howell for a respectable trade price.
