Some believe the Chicago Bears have an easy decision on their hands.
They’ll have the first selection for the second year in a row, and it’s been a long time since the greatest prospect in their class has been so well ahead of the competition.
Caleb Williams, a USC star, appears to be a can’t-miss football player, and the Bears could use some certainty.
However, when it comes to analyzing skill or the NFL Draft, nothing is definite, and this is no exception.
With that in mind, The Athletic reported that Bears General Manager Ryan Poles said some fascinating things regarding whoever the team picks in the draft.
He expressed confidence in his staff’s ability to evaluate a quarterback from a football aspect, but emphasized the need of examining the person as well.
“I’m quite confident in our ability to identify potential on the field. Poles stated, “The human being is something we must figure out.” “Especially as a quarterback in this city, you have to get it right. You need toughness, mental toughness, and the ability to block things out. So I really need to learn more about human beings.”
To be honest, it would take a tragedy or a huge turn of events for any club to pass up Williams for the No. 1 place; that simply does not appear likely at this time.
However, some have questioned his toughness because of his failures against successful teams in college, and most executives found the rumours that he wanted an ownership share in whichever team chose him ludicrous.
Some also doubt if Williams is wired to play for such a team, not to mention that whoever plays quarterback for the Bears would have to excel in the frigid winter.
Whatever the case, the Bears can’t afford to miss this opportunity, and they shouldn’t overthink it.
