TRADE TERMS AGREED: Falcons Are Set to Sign NFC South Top QB Following Contract Agreement

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, extending Baker Mayfield’s deal is not a given for the Buccaneers, and the Falcons are a potential free agent suitor.

“The feeling is that they want to get something done,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler stated on Sunday’s SportsCenter, according to Bleacher Report. “They are going to be talking. They hope to re-sign Mike Evans and Baker Mayfield, but it’s not guaranteed.

“This is a man who will have a pretty good market here. You look at several teams that will be interested in Mayfield and speak with him about the possibility of playing. You see Atlanta as a team that desperately needs a quarterback. They passed on him last year; perhaps they’ll try to make things right.”

2024 NFL Free Agency: Potential Landing Spots For Baker Mayfield | The 33rd Team

Baker Mayfield is familiar with the Atlanta staff. The former No. 1 overall pick spent some of the 2022 season in Los Angeles with the Rams, where Raheem Morris was the defensive coordinator, Zac Robinson was the quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator, and others from Sean McVay’s staff have followed Morris throughout the country.

In five games with the Rams, Mayfield threw for 850 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions, finishing 2-3. He then signed a prove-it contract with the Buccaneers and had a stellar year.

He made career highs by throwing for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns, leading Tampa Bay to a Wild Card victory over the Eagles after finishing first in the NFC South.

Raheem Morris becomes Falcons first Black head coach

Baker Mayfield would be far superior to what the Falcons had at the position last season. If Atlanta had signed him instead of Taylor Heinicke, Arthur Smith might still have his job because the team is one QB away from winning the division.
