BREAKING NEWS: Saints convert DE Carl Granderson’s contract to save $7.2 million in cap space

The process of becoming cap compliant is still ongoing.
NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reports that the New Orleans Saints have converted defensive end Carl Granderson’s contract. For the 2024 season, they have guaranteed his salary.
This action freed up $7.2 million in capital. The Saints haven’t complied with the cap yet, though. The team should be about $34 million away from having favourable cap figures after this trade.

In September of last year, Carl Granderson inked a new deal with the Saints that could potentially be worth $52 million. Because it’s a five-year deal, he’ll remain in Crescent City until the 2028 season. Granderson recorded 44 solo tackles, 34 assisted tackles, 8.5 sacks, and 14 tackles for a loss in the previous campaign. Ever since he signed as an undrafted free agent in 2019, he has been a member of the team.
