ESPNBREAKING NEWS: Commanders Are Set to Land Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl Free Agent After Finalizing Deal with Agent

As the Washington Commanders prepare to select a franchise quarterback with the second overall pick, they must also rebuild their offensive line. Finding a centre will be their main priority, and with Dallas Cowboys free agent Tyler Biadasz on the market, he may be the answer.aThe Commanders allowed the second-most sacks in football in 2023, with 3.8 per game. Last season, Sam Howell was sacked more than any other quarterback in football, totaling 65. That was three more than Bryce Young and nearly 20 more than Zach Wilson, the third-most sacked quarterback with 46. Matt Holder of Bleacher Report connects the Commanders to the former Cowboys centre.

“The Washington Commanders signed centre Nick Gates last summer, but Gates struggled this season, allowing five sacks in the team’s first seven games, according to Pro Football Focus. He was benched in favour of Tyler Larsen, whose contract expires at the start of the new league year.

“The Commanders are largely projected to use the No. 2 overall pick on a quarterback and cannot afford to put the franchise’s future in the hands of a centre who struggles with pass protection. That’s where Tyler Biadasz can help the inexperienced sign-caller.

Holder’s appraisal of the need is correct; the Commanders must safeguard anyone they draft with the No. 2 choice. Last season, Young was under constant pressure, which led to him throwing for only 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. His 33.4 QBR was second worst in football.

Biadasz is familiar with Dan Quinn.
Dan Quinn, the new head coach of the Washington Commanders, most recently served as the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator.

While Biadasz is on the offensive side, there is some overlap with Quinn.

That might benefit the Commanders in this and other scenarios involving Cowboys defensive players.

The Cowboys had an average front seven in terms of sacks allowed, giving up 2.4 per game, ranking 16th. Biadasz allowed three sacks, ranking 14th, according to PFF.

The majority of the offensive line needs help.
While signing a player of Biadasz’s calibre will benefit the Washington Commanders, there is room for improvement throughout the offensive line.

There will be choices later in the draft, but with more than $80 million in cap space this offseason, finding offensive line help should be a top priority. Robert Hunt, Tyron Smith, Jonah Jackson, and others are among the best options this offseason.

Progress Report: Step Forward For Tyler Biadasz?

Bryan Manning of Commanders Wire believes the centre position is a need, claiming that Nick Gates was not good enough after being benched by Week 8 in 2023.

“The Commanders signed Nick Gates to a three-year contract previous summer, but he had been benched by Week 8. He returned later in the season, when Tyler Larsen was injured. Larsen performed better, although he is over 30 and prone to injury. Last season, the Commanders drafted Ricky Stromberg in the third round, but he spent 2023 on injured reserve. With a new quarterback on the way, Washington must address this position. Perhaps Gates has the solution with a fresh strategy, or Stromberg is healthy and ready to take over. Regardless, finding a remedy is crucial for the offensive line this summer.”

They have the funds to make changes, and the former Dallas Cowboys centre may be an excellent first move to enhance this offence.
