The Baltimore Ravens have been linked to a potential chase of some of the best running backs in free agency this spring, but it appears their general manager is willing to stick with the same starting RB from last season.
This past season, the Ravens came one win short of reaching the Super Bowl. Despite the best efforts of 2023 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, it became evident that the organization needed to improve on offence and stop relying so heavily on the brilliant quarterback’s arm and legs if they hoped to win the championship next season.
That is why the organization is rumoured to be using their first selection in the 2024 NFL Draft to enhance their offensive line or wide out corps for the coming season. There have also been rumours of an attempt to upgrade the running back position, with a recent report claiming they could target players Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry in free agency.
JK Dobbins’ career stats: 24 games, 1,347 running yards, 19 total touchdowns, 5.8 yards per carry.
While pursuing those two great veterans remains a possibility, it appears like general manager Eric DeCosta is open to the notion of bringing back his initial starting running back from last season, JK Dobbins, despite only appearing in nine games over the previous two seasons.
“We’re still talking with Gus [Edwards]. On Tuesday, DeCosta told the team’s website, “We’ll talk to J.K.—a couple of free agents we had.” “We’re hopeful that we can get something done with those guys.”
It’s a shocking choice, but the Ravens had high hopes for Dobbins entering this season, as the former second-round pick demonstrated his promise in 2022. However, his 2022 season was cut short due to an ACL rupture, and after being granted the starting role in 2023, he unfortunately tore his Achilles in Week 1.
However, the organization may believe he can recover from both injuries, and with the Baltimore Ravens not having a lot of money to spend this offseason, he would likely come at a low cost in free agency.
