The Minnesota Twins have announced that former leadoff hitter and fan favourite Denard Span would join a large group of former players as TV analysts this season.
The Twins selected Span, 40, in the first round of the 2002 MLB Draft out of high school in Florida.
He finally made his major league debut with the Twins in 2008 and spent 11 seasons with the Twins, Washington Nationals, San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays, and Seattle Mariners.
He spent five years with Minnesota, hitting.284 in his Twins outfit. In 2009, he led the league with ten triples and swiped 26 bases in 2010.
He hit.281 in his career, with 71 home runs and 490 RBIs. He also stole 185 bases. Span placed sixth in the American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2008 and received MVP votes in 2014 with Washington.
As for the club Span will be watching as part of those broadcasts, the Twins are expected to be competitive again in 2024. After winning the AL Central in 2023, they will welcome back a healthy Royce Lewis, Byron Buxton, and Carlos Correa.
They do, however, have worries about pitching after Sonny Grey left in free agency.
