It’s the offseason, meaning the New Orleans Saints will be in salary cap difficulties for another year. The Saints are currently a projected $15 million over the NFL’s 2024 spending limit, ranking fifth worst.
We have seen the restructures, moving future cap impacts into the future, and now the Saints may contemplate dealing one of their most popular players.
The New Orleans Saints are looking to trade Marshon Lattimore.
Marshon Lattimore, the New Orleans Saints’ cornerback, is a club legend. The four-time Pro Bowler has mainly performed admirably since being selected 11th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.
However, according to Pro Football Focus, Lattimore’s performance has deteriorated over the last two seasons, and he is ranked 50th out of 127 cornerbacks in 2023. While he is still only 27 years old, Lattimore is projected to have a $14.1 million cap charge in 2024, and there is speculation he could be dealt.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says “several teams believe” Lattimore is “available via trade.” While Lattimore has a significant cap charge, his basic salary for 2024 is a moderate $1.2 million.
Teams looking for a playmaker may be drawn to the concept of buying low on Lattimore, and given the Saints’ need for cap relief, a deal may be reached.
