During NFL Scouting Combine week, the Washington Commanders made movements that extended outside the Indiana Convention Centre.
Releasing offensive tackle Charles Leno Jr. may have freed up some cap money for the Commanders, but it also left a gap in their offensive line.
We know Leno wasn’t the finest left tackle in the game recently, but he also wasn’t the worst, so Washington’s responsibility now is to ensure the replacement improves on the predecessor.
Fortunately for them, there are free agent possibilities available to replace him, including Cincinnati Bengals lineman Jonah Williams.
Williams started the league as a left tackle in 2020, adored playing the position, and was so eager to continue doing so that when the Bengals brought in a new one and switched him to the right side, he requested a trade.
Williams eventually yielded and played over 1,000 snaps for Cincinnati on the right side, but with free agency looming, it would make sense for him to explore for a new team.
If he’s willing to play on either side, the Commanders benefit from signing an experienced player with versatility who could remain around for a while rather than pigeonholing the team into a specific sort of prospect in the April NFL Draft.
