BREAKING NEWS: New Orleans Saints Are In Advance talks to Former Defensive Rookie of the Year in Potential Free Agency Splash

The New Orleans Saints missed the playoffs after dropping two tiebreakers last season. To correct that blunder, the organization can pursue and sign defensive end Chase Young away from the San Francisco 49ers.

The Saints have failed to advance to the NFL playoffs for the third straight season. This ended in Derek Carr wasting another year that could have been used to make a serious playoff push.
The Saints’ poor finish follows an offence ranked ninth in the league and an eighth-ranked defence among 32 clubs. Despite a top-10 performance on both sides of the field, New Orleans failed to make the playoffs.

One approach to help the squad compete is to sign talented players in free agency. One of them is Chase Young of the 49ers, who will help the Saints’ defence.

Why the New Orleans Saints should sign Chase Young in free agency.
Even if the Saints’ defence ranks eighth in the NFL, there is still space for growth. Aaron Schatz revealed more in his ESPN article:

“The biggest need here is quite evident, as New Orleans placed 31st in pass rush win rate and 31st in adjusted sack rate. There are several quality free agency edge rushers available, and the Saints must choose one that fits within their budget. Young might benefit from a one-year prove-it contract. He struggled to remain healthy in 2021 and 2022, and while he had 7.5 sacks in 2023, his performance declined after being traded to San Francisco in the midst of the season.

Young ranked 15th among edge rushers with a 19.3% pass rush win rate from the edge, but that dropped from 24.8% with Washington to 12.9% with San Francisco (through the playoffs). Young could play opposite Cameron Jordan on a one-year deal with New Orleans and show that he still possesses all of the talent that propelled him to the No. 2 overall pick in 2020,” Schatz said.

Getting Young from San Francisco will be a huge victory for the Saints. Even on a one-year contract, the defensive end can still have an impact on New Orleans.
It remains to be seen what the Saints do or where Young ends up. In any event, it’s wise to keep a watch on both parties during the following days.
