LATEST ON NFL DRAFT: Commanders have Land Lamar Jackson-Like QB As Confirmed by Commanders owner Josh Harris

The biggest curiosity many people have about the Washington Commanders this offseason is which quarterback will be selected with the second overall pick. The Commanders are focusing on the “big three”: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye. While it has been speculated that Washington could trade down from No. 2 to a team like the Atlanta Falcons to improve its draft position, this is improbable. So, if the Commanders do choose a quarterback, which one will it be? In CBS Sports’ most recent mock draft, Washington selects a quarterback with a comparable style to two-time MVP winner Lamar Jackson.

“No player did more for their draft stock during the 2023 college football season than Jayden Daniels,” a report from CBS Sports states. “His playing style reminds me of Lamar Jackson, and I’ve said this for months now: would be shocking if, five years from now, Daniels ends up as the best QB in this class?”

Washington has rarely possessed such a desirable pick and so much cap freedom to enter the offseason with. This emphasizes the importance of making sound decisions. With owner Josh Harris at the helm, general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn have been tasked with turning the organization around, which begins with Daniels’ selection. Daniels, a true dual-threat quarterback, would provide the Commanders with a quarterback capable of tearing up defences both in the air and on the ground.

Daniels threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and just four interceptions in his final season at LSU, which resulted in him winning the Heisman Trophy, while rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Commanders have weapons for Daniels to use, as Terry McLautin and Jahan Dotson are expected to benefit greatly from Daniels’ arm talent and power, while his rushing ability could complement Brian Robinson Jr. in Kingsbury’s offence. Washington has a major decision on draft night, and in Daniels, the franchise finds a quarterback to lead this new regime into an exciting age.
