The Cleveland Browns have struggled more than any other team to find a superstar quarterback.
They remain hopeful that Deshaun Watson will be the answer to their prayers and the man who would propel them to the next level once and for all.
He hasn’t showed much during his two years in Berea, but the skill is there, and some supporters have yet to lose trust in him.
Notably, this contains former player Eric Metcalf.
On “The Dawg Check Podcast,” he listed all of the quarterbacks he would take over for Watson in his current circumstances, and there weren’t many.
Unsurprisingly, he chose Patrick Mahomes as the number one quarterback because he is currently the best in the game.
He also praised Lamar Jackson and chose him over the Clemson product.
Metcalf later hesitated before selecting Josh Allen, claiming that he is likely a better quarterback but doubts his ability to perform when it means most.
Finally, he added that he would prefer Aaron Rodgers over Watson as long as he is healthy.
Some may argue for Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts, or even Tua Tagovailoa, but the reality is that when Watson is at his best, there aren’t many quarterbacks better than him.
Hopefully, he’ll be at his best and able to play a complete season in 2024, as patience is running out.
