BREAKING NEWS: Cardinals Are Set to Bring Top WR Back

Though the Arizona Cardinals do not have many major free agents, wide receiver Marquise Brown’s status has been worth tracking as the Oklahoma product prepares to reach the open market next week.

Brown was originally picked by the Baltimore Ravens before being traded to the Cardinals on draft night two years ago. Arizona made a big move at wide receiver in the hopes of building a formidable combo with DeAndre Hopkins.

So far, they’ve missed. Brown has failed to emerge in the light that former Cardinals GM Steve Keim saw him in, for a variety of reasons including injuries, production, and the team’s general standing, but that doesn’t mean Arizona’s new regime will not try to bring him back.

According to NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry, the Cardinals may look to get Brown back on a one-year contract:

“If Marvin Harrison Jr. is there at 4 when the Cardinals pick, they are absolutely taking him,” a person familiar with the situation told Berry. “I was also told don’t be surprised if the Cards bring back Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown on a one-year deal.”

Expectations regarding Brown’s potential market value vary greatly. Spotrac estimates his annual market value at slightly under $15 million per season, while Pro Football Focus expects him to sign a one-year, $12 million contract.

Brown previously carried contract negotiations into the 2023 season, but nothing came of it.

A one-year deal for Brown may benefit both sides, as Arizona would keep one of Kyler Murray’s favourite targets, while Brown would have another chance to improve his numbers and potentially cash out next offseason.

Free agency will begin on March 11, and the Cardinals have more over $50 million in cap space to deal with.

If Brown does not return, where will he end up?
