Golden State Warriors ace Stephen Curry is scheduled to have imaging done on his injured right ankle on Friday, according to ESPN’s Kendra Andrews.
Curry exited Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls late in the fourth quarter, looking to roll his right ankle. After hobbling around the floor to try to loosen up, the two-time MVP was assisted back to the Warriors’ locker room, heavily favouring his injured ankle.
Curry’s right foot got hooked beneath him while attempting to plant and pass between Bulls defenders Coby White and Alex Caruso on an offensive drive toward the rim. Curry’s ankle is shown twisting in on the clip, and the star is immediately in pain. These types of injuries involving the outside of the ankle are commonly referred to as lateral sprains. Additional imaging and tests will be performed to establish the degree of the injury.
Klay Thompson talked on Curry’s injury after the game, saying that if the 10-time All-Star is forced to miss time, the team will definitely miss him. Draymond Green also spoke up, saying Curry was in “high spirits” after the team’s 125-122 loss and his early exit from the game.
Curry’s injury could not have come at a worse moment for the Warriors. Their loss to the Bulls on Thursday night drops them to 33-29 on the season, tying them with the Los Angeles Lakers for last place in the Western Conference play-in round. If Curry is forced to miss any time during the final month or so of the regular season, Golden State’s prospects of moving up the standings from the play-in bracket region will be reduced.
Given Curry’s reaction to the injury and the worry within the Warriors organization, it appears like everyone expects him to miss some time. The team will publish the results of his scan on Friday later that day.
