DEAL AGREED: Cleveland Browns Are Set to Bring Explosive $32.2 Million NFC North Top RB in Intriguing Free Agency

The Cleveland Browns have a lot of difficult decisions to make in their running back group. It’s unclear whether Nick Chubb can still be a successful runner after tearing his ACL and MCL against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 last season.
This uncertainty led to them being linked to several running backs throughout the season. While the Browns have held their cards close to their chest, it wouldn’t be unexpected if they sign a good running back as a free agency.

Alexander Mattison
The latest rusher linked to the Dawg Pound is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating talents in the 2024 free agency class.
The Cleveland Browns are rumoured to be signing free agent Alexander Mattison.

Minnesota Vikings fans who saw Alexander Mattison play last season may have different perspectives on him. Some may believe he has a promising future with a squad that is prepared to give him a shot. Others may believe that his stats are empty and deceptive.

However, it is apparent that he is still a capable running back who can put together long runs. Irie Harris of Cleveland.com speculated that he could take over for Nick Chubb if his injury limits his running abilities.
Harris described Mattison’s performance for the Minnesota Vikings past season:

With Cook’s departure, Mattison was given the opportunity to start for Minnesota before 2023, and he seized it. Mattison started 13 of his 16 games and ended 32nd in the league in total rushing yards (700) on 180 carries for an average of 3.9 yards.

Mattison did not score a running touchdown. Instead, he scored three receiving touchdowns.

It’s intriguing that the Boise State product scored three receiving touchdowns but no rushing scores. These figures may lead some Cleveland Browns supporters to believe that he isn’t worth chasing.

However, there is unquestionable demand in the NFL for a running back with his ability. If the team decides to continue with Chubb in 2024, he can provide effective coverage.
