Luka Doncic is having an all-time season for the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 30-point triple-doubles with ease as he looks to secure a playoff position. In the Mavs’ 142-124 victory over the Detroit Pistons, he once again loaded the stat sheet, finishing with 39 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, three steals, and two blocks.
During the Mavs’ victory over the Pistons, yells of “Luka sucks!” rained down at Little Caesars Arena. They appeared to energize Doncic, who went on a tear that put Dallas ahead before blowing Detroit out of the water in the second half. He achieved his sixth consecutive 30-point triple-double, an NBA record.
When asked about the shouts after the game, Doncic did not raise any objections.
“In Detroit?” Come on, guy. “I’m fine,” Doncic remarked. The Mavericks superstar stated that he enjoys hearing shouts like those from opposing fans. “They know it’s not true and they keep going.”
Luka Doncic has never had a particularly memorable relationship with the Pistons, so his response reads as if he is simply astonished that the screams originated from their fans. However, it is difficult not to interpret the comment as a dig at one of the NBA’s weakest clubs.
Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd denied hearing the chants, claiming they were ridiculous given Doncic’s talent.
Very accurate, Jason.
The Mavericks’ superstar leads the NBA in scoring at 34.6 points per game, while also averaging 9.8 assists and 9.0 rebounds. He shoots 49.6 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from deep. His production is far higher than in past seasons, giving him a strong chance of winning MVP.
