During a recent episode of Gil’s Arena, veteran NBA player and Memphis Grizzlies guard Gilbert Arenas chastised the Golden State Warriors for leaving Boston Celtics standout Jaylen Brown exposed.
“Ben Simmons makes sense,” Arenas explained. “… There are some players you should do that to. Not the person who makes $300 million… There are only a few players on certain teams… There aren’t many of them guys out there, so you have to pick and select.”
Brown, of course, got hot, and the Celtics easily defeated the Warriors in Boston. Since that game, Golden State has struggled and has yet to fully recover.
When asked about his approach for Brown, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr stated, “You try different things, and you have to select your matchups. We wanted Draymond [Green] to be able to assist with drives and ensure that we weren’t giving up easy points in the paint. The killer was the transition from beginning to end. They received 42 transition points. “You’re not going to win a game with that kind of defensive – or lack of defensive awareness.”
Arenas clearly disagrees with Golden State’s head coach, criticizing the choice to leave someone of Brown’s calibre open from three points.
