According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Denver Broncos signed former Miami Dolphins safety Brandon Jones to a three-year contract, marking their first out-of-house addition in 2024 NFL free agency.
According to Jordan Schultz of The Score, Jones’ contract is worth up to $22.5 million, with a base salary of $20 million and a guaranteed $12.5 million.
“I wouldn’t trade the previous four years for anything. Forever grateful to the Dolphins organization for taking a chance on a boy from Nacogdoches, Texas who wanted nothing more than to fulfill his childhood ambition of playing in the NFL. Jones confirmed the move, writing on X, “Denver… LFG.”
Jones, a 2020 third-round choice out of Texas, started 30 of 54 games with the Dolphins and recorded 151 solo tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hits, nine pass breakups, eight sacks, four forced fumbles, and three interceptions.
Jones, 25, completed last season as Pro Football Focus’ 16th-ranked safety out of 95 qualifiers, with plus grades in coverage (76.2) and pass-rushing (75.7).
Given the money, Jones should take up the starting spot left vacant by former Pro Bowler Justin Simmons, whom Denver released last week, and face fellow Longhorn alum P.J. Locke, whom the Broncos re-signed ahead of free agency.
