Chase Young and the New Orleans Saints have agreed on a contract until the 2024 season. Young, 24, is already one of the league’s finest defensive players, but he believes there is opportunity for improvement, according to John DeShazier.
“I feel like in every area of my game, I can grow,” Young said in an interview. “I’m still a young player in this game, and I’m just still in that journey to be the best player I can be.”
Young started his career with the Washington Commanders in 2021. He quickly established himself as a star, receiving the Defensive Rookie of the Year award and a Pro Bowl spot.
Injuries have restricted Young’s performance in recent years. In 2023, he was moved from the Commanders to the eventual NFC champions, the San Francisco 49ers.
According to DeShazier, Chase Young also addressed previous injury concerns.
“Injuries definitely hindered a few things, but it’s all good,” Young told reporters. “It is all about the process and the trip. I understand what I can do. I am a man of God, and He is still giving me opportunity to prove it. So, I am here.”
Saints seek to take the next step forward with Chase Young on the roster.
The Saints concluded 2023 with a 9–8 record. New Orleans was in postseason contention because they played in a weak division, but the Saints hope to have a more consistent overall performance in 2024.
Adding Young will undoubtedly assist in that aspect. If Young can stay healthy, he will be a key member of the New Orleans defence.
Perhaps the Saints will emerge as a serious contender and make an impact in the NFC during the 2024 season. Sure, they won’t be the favourite for the 24th season. Nonetheless, New Orleans has a serious chance of competing.
