Former Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor is back in the transfer portal and could be on his way back to Tuscaloosa.
The five-star prospect started all 14 games for the Crimson Tide last season at left tackle, a departure for Nick Saban in his final year as head coach. Proctor persevered through early-season troubles and improved during conference play, helping the Tide win the Southeastern Conference championship. He joined the gateway and was promptly transferred to Iowa once Saban retired.
Now, two months later, Proctor has told On3 that he will access the gateway when it opens on April 15. 247Sports has already linked Proctor to the Crimson Tide. If Proctor returns to Bryant-Denny Stadium one day after A-Day, it will be a significant boost to Alabama’s projected offensive line and a huge win for Kalen DeBoer, Chris Kapilovic, and the new coaching staff.
The offseason following Saban’s retirement was contentious. Proctor, Shaun Alexander’s Freshman of the Year Caleb Downs, and five-star quarterback Julian Sayin were predicted future starters who left. Proctor’s departure was also marked by Iowa self-reporting a Level-III NCAA violation for texting him throughout the season. Overall, 25 players left the 2023-24 roster.
However, DeBoer has brought in components from his Washington club, most notably offensive lineman and centre prospect Parker Brailsford. Alabama would have to replace three players right away if Proctor returned to the program he pledged to close signing day, after switching from Iowa two years ago.
During UA’s first open practice in three years, reporters saw Elijah Pritchett, who nearly started for Proctor in the Rose Bowl due to an ankle injury suffered a week before, with the first team alongside Tyler Booker, James Brockermeyer at centre, Jaeden Roberts at right guard, and second-year player Wilkin Formby. Proctor would be a critical stabilizing factor in DeBoer’s power run, deep passing strategy.
Proctor, described at 6-foot-7, 360 pounds, earned a 66.3 season rating from ProFootball Focus, with his best performance coming against the Bulldogs. He was an All-SEC First-Team selection, as determined by league coaches.
