Adrian Newey, Christian Horner’s assistant, is close to joining Red Bull’s Formula One rivals, according to Bild Sport.
The publication understands that Newey is in ‘advanced talks’ with Ferrari, a move that could be critical to the team’s future success. Chief technical officer Newey has played an important part in creating Red Bull’s cars, which have dominated the sport in recent years, with driver Max Verstappen winning the last three world championships.
Fans have called Newey ‘the aero king’ because he has helped the team become a dominant constructor on the track, and Red Bull are the favourites to extend their winning streak this season. However, the latest controversy involving Horner has reportedly caused a lot of anger behind the scenes, which could lead Newey to depart Red Bull.
Horner, who makes £8 million each year as team principal, was the subject of an internal probe last month following allegations of forceful behaviour against a female colleague. He rejected the claims throughout the proceedings and was eventually cleared.
