During his combine interview in Indianapolis on Wednesday morning, a top pass rusher in the 2024 NFL Draft discussed his favorite aspects of the Chicago Bears’ defense. The Bears are anticipated to add a defensive end via the draft or free agency.
The Chicago Bears want another pass rusher.
On Tuesday, head coach Matt Eberflus stated that he wanted to add another pass rusher to the opposite side of Montez Sweat. As new defensive coordinator Eric Washington stated last week, the Bears aspire to have the league’s strongest pass rush.
Dallas Turner explains what he knows about the Bears
One player who could help the Bears move closer to that goal is Alabama OLB Dallas Turner. Turner ended the 2023 season with ten sacks and two caused fumbles. He was asked what he thought about the Bears’ defense. Turner said he likes how the defense is built on the pass rush.
“The defense is built around the pass rush,” Turner explained. “Being a pass rusher on that team gives you a lot of freedom and opportunities.”
Turner discusses his weight and explosiveness.
Turner, an outside linebacker at Alabama, stated that he wants to be adaptable in the NFL and fit into any scheme. Turner stated that he wants to weigh 255 pounds because it allows him to be powerful while maintaining his explosive burst from the edge.
“That is probably the best weight I can move at. By the end of the season, I feel a lot stronger than I did when I was 225 pounds my freshman year,” Turner explained. Turner reported his weight had risen to 260 pounds by the start of his freshman year due to the Covid-19 epidemic. He finished his freshman year at approximately 225 pounds before bulking back up to his desired weight.
“Then the 255 in my junior season, I could tell the difference for sure in the strength, the power, the explosiveness,” Turner told ESPN. “It felt good playing at 255 my junior year, so I feel like that can open up a lot of versatility in whatever defense, whatever type of scheme I’m in.”
Turner needs to have a strong frame to play in Eberflus’ opportunistic system. But he can’t gain too much weight at the price of what Turner considers one of his best qualities.
“My explosiveness, my versatility, being able to play off the ball but being able to play on the ball as well, it’s just many things that made me into the player that I am today,” stated Turner.
